Irritation and anger

When a boundary is crossed and strong energy rises inside.

Irritation and anger

How it usually shows up

  • Heat in the chest and face
  • Sharpness in the voice
  • The urge to answer immediately

What is happening

Anger signals a crossed boundary or a clash with your values. It gives energy for protection, but in an impulse that energy usually destroys more than it helps.

Working with anger is not suppression but a pause between impulse and action: first let the body discharge, then understand what exactly was touched.

Three first steps right now

  1. Pause for one to three breaths before answering.
  2. Discharge the body: brisk walking, shaking, a strong exhale.
  3. Ask: which of my boundaries has just been crossed?
