Everyday strength for legs and hips.

  • Knees
  • Everyday strength

Purpose

Build functional strength for the legs and hips with controlled trunk alignment.

Starting position

Sit towards the front half of a stable chair with feet hip-width apart and slightly behind the knees.

How to perform

Lean the trunk slightly forward from the hips, press the feet into the floor and stand up. Sit back down slowly and with control.

Breathing

Exhale as you stand, inhale as you lower.

What to pay attention to

The knees track roughly over the feet and the weight is distributed through the whole foot. Choose a chair height that matches your current ability.

Common mistakes

Knees collapsing inward, pushing only through the toes, dropping onto the chair, and using excessive momentum.

Dosage

8–15 repetitions, 2–3 sets.
